Orderin Merchant App
Designing a tablet interface to help restaurants process delivery orders efficiently
The Orderin Merchant Tablet App helps restaurant staff manage incoming delivery orders, coordinate drivers, and keep orders moving through the delivery workflow.
My role focused on translating existing research and product requirements into high-fidelity interface designs, validating the solution through usability testing, and refining the final product experience.

Role
Lead UX/UI designer
Platform
Restaurant merchant tablet app (Android)
Goal
Enable restaurant staff to process delivery orders quickly and accurately.
Context
The discovery work, user journeys, and wireframes had already been completed before I joined the project.
My responsibility was to take the existing research and translate it into production-ready interface designs and prototypes, ensuring the solution worked effectively for real restaurant staff.

My role
My work focused on four key areas:
Reviewing existing research
I studied the existing personas, user journeys, and business goals to understand the problem space.
Designing high-fidelity interfaces
Using the research insights, I designed the full set of UI screens and interactive prototypes for the tablet application.
Usability testing
I planned and facilitated a usability test with restaurant staff to validate the design and identify potential issues.
Design iteration
Based on the findings, I refined the interface and finalised the product flows.
User testing
To validate the design, I conducted usability testing with restaurant staff at a McDonald’s branch. The goal was to ensure users could process incoming orders efficiently and without confusion.
Participants included cashiers, restaurant managers, and administrative staff responsible for handling delivery orders.
The test focused on tasks such as:
processing new orders
moving orders into the “in progress” queue
viewing driver and customer information
identifying collection vs delivery orders
locating completed orders
Sessions were recorded using screen, video, and audio recordings to capture behaviour and feedback.
Key findings
Overall, participants were able to complete the core tasks successfully.
However, testing surfaced several usability improvements:
order card information needed clearer labels
the distinction between delivery and collection orders was unclear
the meaning of “In Progress” status needed clarification
users benefited from persistent notifications for new orders
Outcome
The usability testing helped validate the core workflow while identifying several improvements to strengthen the experience.
Design updates included:
clearer order card labels
improved icons for collection vs delivery orders
clearer order status indicators
persistent notifications for incoming orders
These improvements helped ensure the tablet interface supported fast, error-free order processing in busy restaurant environments.

What is Getmo?
chevron_forward
Getmo is a founder-led design and digital marketing studio run by me, Piet Alberts. I offer senior UX/UI, web design, brand identity, and digital marketing as a direct alternative to hiring in-house or using an agency. With 20+ years of experience, you work with me directly.
What design and marketing services does Getmo offer?
chevron_forward
I offer design and digital marketing services across UX and UI design, product design, web design and Webflow or Framer development, brand identity and logo design, marketing design, digital marketing strategy, SEO, campaigns, and landing pages. For hands-on channel work like paid media, I bring in trusted specialists and manage it for you.
How can I hire Getmo?
chevron_forward
There are three ways to hire me. A monthly plan, a design and marketing retainer where you reserve a block of hours. Fixed-price packages, for standard projects like a website. And custom projects, quoted per brief for one-off, bespoke work. You choose whichever suits your needs and budget.
Which option is right for me?
chevron_forward
If you need ongoing design and marketing, a monthly retainer fits best. For a standard, well-defined project like a website, a fixed-price package is the quickest and most affordable route. For one-off, bespoke work, a custom project is quoted per brief. Not sure? Book a free call and I will recommend the right fit.
Who does the work?
chevron_forward
I do, personally. Getmo is founder-led, so every design and marketing project is handled by me, Piet Alberts, a senior designer and digital marketing consultant with 20+ years of experience. There are no juniors and no handoffs; the core design and marketing work is always mine.
How fast will I get my work?
chevron_forward
Most individual tasks are delivered within 48 to 72 hours, with larger design and marketing projects on a timeline agreed upfront. Because you work directly with me, there are no account managers or queues slowing delivery down.
Do you work remotely with clients worldwide?
chevron_forward
Yes. Getmo works remotely with clients worldwide. I am based in South Africa and take on design and digital marketing projects internationally, agreeing currency and timelines upfront.
